ABOUT US

Partners for Stronger Communities (PFSC), a Bristol, Virginia-based nonprofit organization, began serving the surrounding communities in 1973. Founded as the Bristol Crisis Center, it was one of the first crisis centers to serve the state of Virginia, and addressed a wide range of community issues such as substance use, family issues, and mental health struggles.

In keeping with the original mission of service to vulnerable and marginalized residents in our community, PFSC has adapted to meet the changing needs of the region. PFSC serves survivors of domestic, dating, and sexual violence, as well as addressing issues of poverty and homelessness in the region.

Through community education and support programs, we are working to reimagine systems that disproportionately impact members of marginalized groups and to promote diversity, inclusion, and equity. We do this through support services, education, and resources that encourage local residents to thrive. By reflecting on the work we do and the specific needs of our service area, PFSC serves as a dynamic organization that can continually improve our offerings to the NETN/SWVA region.

Our Programs

Our Programs and Initiatives

Since its inception, PFSC has been at the forefront of creating progressive programs tailored to the unique needs of our community. Some of our pivotal initiatives include:

  • Shelter and Rehabilitation: Offering temporary shelters for victims of domestic violence and homelessness, ensuring they have a safe haven. Additionally, we provide rehabilitative programs to help them reintegrate into society with confidence and skills.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Spearheading community-wide awareness campaigns, we strive to bring light to pressing issues such as substance use and its societal implications, the dangers of domestic violence, and the importance of mental health.
  • Counseling Services: Recognizing the scars left behind by traumatic experiences, our team of professional counselors provides both individual and group therapy sessions. This holistic approach ensures that both the emotional and psychological needs of our community members are addressed.
  • Community Outreach: Regular workshops, seminars, and events focused on health, well-being, and skill acquisition are held. These are aimed at empowering individuals, especially those from marginalized sections, to take charge of their lives.
  • Collaborations for Change: We firmly believe in the power of collaboration. By partnering with local businesses, schools, and other community organizations, we aim to create a united front against the challenges our region faces.

Future Visions

At PFSC, the journey doesn’t end with the services we offer today. We are continuously exploring new avenues and solutions. Our future vision includes:

  • Expansion of Services: As we tap into the pulse of our community’s needs, we’re working towards expanding our range of services, ensuring that no individual feels left out.
  • Technology Integration: Recognizing the role of technology in today’s world, we plan to introduce digital platforms that offer support, counseling, and resources remotely, ensuring that help is just a click away.
  • Research and Advocacy: To bring about systemic change, we intend to invest in research that highlights the specific challenges our community faces. Armed with this data, we aim to influence policy-making at higher levels, ensuring that the voices of our community members are heard and acknowledged.

“At Partners for Stronger Communities, every day is an opportunity to touch lives, make a difference, and foster change. We invite you to join us on this journey towards creating a resilient, inclusive, and vibrant community for all.”
